If Not Now When?

By Mac Guerreiro

Eye’ve been told Eye’m full of it,

Not just by those who brought me into this life,

But by those whom eye’d never met,

By those whom knew little of my journey,

Eye’ve been told,

Told by those whom see and hear what most cannot,

What eye wish eye could hear and see more clearly,

By people eye could sense were speaking only truth,

So why is it that it’s taken me this long?

This long to be open to the possibility,

That Eye’m as powerful as they tell me,

It took stripping everything away,

Day after day,

Meaningless and grey,

Unlike the grey of wonder,

This is the kind of grey that makes me shudder,

Gloomy and opaque,

This grey can block the sun for days,

The Sun,

He’s part of this,

My energy craves his,

For he can help me rekindle the fire inside,

The one eye’ve always tried to hide,

Because long ago to use it burned only me,

Leaving me scarred and lonely,

But that’s no longer my reality,

For those around me depend on the rekindling,

Maybe the world does too,

Maybe now eye’ve nothing to lose.

In believing the messages from the earthly and cosmic alike,

In believing that eye really am some sort of Aes Sedai,

Given a cursed collar before ever consciously touching the Source,

Controlling myself by imitating the one whom controlled me without remorse,

Eye must be as powerful as they say,

For one to feel the need to keep a child’s fire at bay,

Such as was done to me,

So let it burn,

Let the fire consume every bit of doubt,

Leaving room for holy waters to qwench this drought,

The one that created a desert within,

It’s time for lush jungle to make its way in,

For the shaman inside to rise again,

And for my own inner warrior to win.

Thank you for reading, listening and watching; it means the world to me.
