For Fear

By Mac Guerreiro

Eye’ve learned to cry silently,

Stifling sobs so that they don’t leave my body shaking,

Eye’ve learned to let the tears fall,

Without any sound at all,

And eye’ve learned to resent my breath for exposing me,

Avoiding the much needed sharp inhale for as long as need be,

So that my tears can continue to fall secretly,

So that eye may remain hidden away,

Pretending eye can successfully keep these emotions at bay,

Yet at one point eye’ll break,

The flood will give way,

The sobs will resonate like earthquakes,

And like a mudslide prompted by rain,

Or a stowaway on an unknown train,

Eye’ll have to ride that wave,

But to bring along a plus-one,

What a terrifying notion,

This world has taught me that there is such a thing as too much emotion,

In a hallway,

A long time ago,

That “lesson” solidified in my soul,

So now eye cry without words,

Without sounds,

For fear of being found out,

Eye feel TOO MUCH,

Stay away,

Because eye cannot keep these feelings at bay.
