By Mac Guerreiro

Eye’m not ready for the physical shifts,

The rearranging of my hips,

The weight,

Eye’m not ready for the pain,

Eye’m not ready,

Not ready for the doughy eyes,

Inevitable goodbyes,

Eye’m not ready for the sleepless nights,

Eye’m not ready financially,

But even that isn’t the root really,

Eye’m not ready because it takes getting deep,

Deeper than eye’ve ever gone,

It takes consistently looking into the broken bits one by one,

Today eye found a piece that’s more pivotal than most,

And it showed me insight into my oldest ghost,

A little girl who shines so bright,

Utterly unable to see that she is the source of the light,

Looking outward is all she knows,

That remains except now she’s grown,

Eye’m not ready because there are still parts of me that hold a grudge,

Eye can’t blame them when they were so wrongfully judged,

Yet now that eye know,

There’s nothing to do but grow,

And that’s what eye intend to do,

So that perhaps one day eye’ll feel ready for you.
